Solange's New Ad for Carols Daughter

Solo looks gorge per usual! This makes me wish I had loose natural hair for 3.5 seconds...but then I think of how liberating my locs are lol. I love CD's products.

Moisture Spray

My locks tend to get super dry as it gets closer to hair washing day. To combat this dryness I came up with my own concoction. I am in love with water, olive oil, and coconut oil. So it would only seem quite natural for me to mix all three ingredients together. I also threw in some Infusium 23 for added assistance in the moisturizing department.

I pretty much eyeballed the mixture but I used more water than any of the other ingredients. The results are shiny moisturized hair that is not left feeling super greasy or weighed down.

Give it a try and tell me what you think.

EVOO to the Rescue!

I despise Rachel Ray, I am not really sure why but I do. However, both Rachel and I have one thing in common and it is our love for EVOO. EVOO for those who do not know is extra virgin olive oil. Olive oil is a great moisturizer that I use both in my hair and on my skin.  Olive oil is rich in vitamins and is a natural anti-aging agent.

When using olive oil in my hair, I usually use it to "grease" my scalp or as a hot oil treatment.

When using as a hot oil treatment simply heat the oil in the microwave. Only heat the oil up for a few seconds because you do not want to burn your scalp. After the oil has been heated pour it on your hair and use your fingers (or a comb...i have locs so no comb necessary) to evenly distribute the oil throughout your hair.  Then cover with a shower cap. You can either sit under the dryer or wrap your covered head with a towel to produce heat. I usually let it sit for about 10-30 minutes (depending on how i feel)  until I wash it out. The end result should be soft and shiny hair!!!!

When I use olive oil as a skin moisturizer, I either use it mixed in my lotion or solo fresh out the shower. EVOO equals soft kissable skin, I guarantee you will not be able to take your hands off of yourself. I have noticed that my skin has begun to look more smooth and even. I have also noticed that my stretch marks seem to be fading. (YAY!)

With that being said I hope EVOO works as well for you all as it has been for me.

Hair Care Products

When it comes to my hair products I usually try to keep it simple. (aka Im broke lol) When I was newly natural I was gung-ho super natural girl. Nothing was touching my head unless it was additive free and uber natural. Then I realized that ish was expensive! So now I try to balance out with products that all natural ingredients and products that list additives/chemicals further down in there ingredients.

With that being said here is the the list of my current products in rotation:

1. Kinky Curly's Knot Today - I use this to tame my 'fro locs. It leaves my hair super soft. (shout out to Kim for leaving it at my house :p )

2. Taliah Waajid's Lock it Up - I use this to retwist my locs. It does not leave my hair flaky, ashy, or heavy. I think it would make a good gel for twist outs for the loose hair girlies. (jealous)

3. Blue Magic's Coconut Oil - Yessss I knooooow!!!! I busted out the Blue Magic. Call me ghetto! lol (shrug)  Any who.. I mix the coconut oil with my locing gel. I learned that trick from a friend. It gives the gel a extra hold and leaves my scalp/hair moisturized.

4. Garnier Fructis shampoo - I just choose any one really. It is cheap and it works.

What products do you swear by for natural haircare? I'll try anything once.

Nightie Aphrodites - T Magazine Spread

T Magazine embraces the natural in their latest spread featuring Soloange Knowles, Les Nubians, Corrine Bailey Rae, Esperanza Spaulding, and Juno Temple. This spread makes me thrilled because it's proof of what i've been saying all along, that natural hair is beautiful.

Makes me miss my fro! *tears*

My Natural...

Before there were locs there was my TWA (teeny weeny afro).  I can't believe I have been natural for about 7 years now. I decided to go natural the summer before my senior year of high school.  That random moment may have been the bravest thing I've done, I swear I was the only girl with natural hair in my high school.

My natural hair texture ranges from super kinky to looser curls.  I used to "no poo" with Sauve's coconut conditioner. This conditioner really brought out my "curl" pattern.

I lived by my twists! My mom used to twist my hair on the weekend. I love love loved Mango Butter not only did it smell yummy it kept my hair moisturized. Sometimes I even used jam (don't judge me lol)

(dead at my island gear...I think this was heritage day)

Oooo to be young and skinny with unruly eyebrows lol

Beauty Review: Curls' Blissfull Lengths

I was at my neighborhood Target (aka DC's only Target) with my friend. While perusing down the beauty aisle is stopped in the "ethnic section". You see lately my hair has been rather dry since i ran out of oil and refused to replace it due to sheer laziness.

My friend started raving about Curls products...so naturally I picked up the Curls Kukinut Oil Elixir. I am liking the oil thus far. Not only is the smell is yummy but my hair is loving this oil. It just soaks it up and leaves my hair very moisturized and shiny. What I also like about this oil is that it doesn't leave my hair greasy. (that's the WORST!) I love the fact that it doesn't have mineral, silicones, parabens, petroleum or sulfate oils. It's so hard to find products that do not use those ingredients. I am not sure about the growth aspect of this oil as I have not been using it for that long and I am not really interested in increasing my growth rate.

Overall I am a happy camper.

Hair Today .... Long Tomorrow

I was facebook stalking myself today (don't act like you dont do it too) and going through my pictures from freshmen year. I came across this photo.

Ignore...the ecko...dont judge me

Anyway...

I can't believe how far my hair has come in just six years. Back in the day i couldn't wait til my hair was ponytail-able and now my hair is approaching butt length. (a hair cut is needed for sure)

I have no real secret to my hair growth. When it comes to my hair i really take the less is more approach. I wash it with Garnier shampoo and use olive oil as a hot oil treatment. I switch between the Olive Oil brand loc gel and Taliah Waajid. I retwist when i get sick of my fro locs lol. I really am my hair idk what i'd do without my locs. Certainly not comb my hair lol.
