Mel's Life: #BTS DOKU Summer 15 Shoot

I put on my stylist hat for the second time this weekend and whew what a weekend it was. There were laughs, tears, sweat, and we all learned We Like to Cha Cha.  The theme of this shoot was a cross between music festival wear and every day city chic. Check out the behind the scenes pics courtesy of Lauren (thanks!!!).

The Slay List: The Met Gala 2015

This years Met Gala theme was China Through the Looking Glass and naturally everyone went see through (yaaaaaawwwwwn). Here are my picks for top 3 looks tonight. I chose these three ladies because their looks were visually interesting and on theme.

SJP always serves at the Met Gala

I love Solo's look because she reminds me of a Chinese Fan

Mel's Life: Styling and Profiling

Remember my first time styling for DOKU?! Here are a couple of the final images from the shoot a couple of months ago. Not bad for my first time eh?

Wish List: Zara High Heeled Printed Leather Bootie

I Want. I Need.

Current Obsessions

I saw these shoes on Zara.com and knew immediately I needed them. I needed them soooo badly that I put myself on the waiting list to get them. On Thursday, I got the email saying they were available but I decided to wait until Friday to purchase them (payday duh) and to my dismay they were sold out! SOLD OUT!! So I cried on the inside for 1-5 minutes and then decided to call the ZARA down the street from my job and they had them in stock!  Im so obsessed with these shoes!!!! They're studded and black aka the epitome of all things Melanie!

I also swung by H&M and picked up this decorative container for my desk/vanity (the one I don't own yet). I am finally getting around to sprucing up my bedroom. I cant wait to show everyone the final results.

Love at First Sight

I am pretty much obsessed with all things Pour La Victoire and I need the Mini Elle crossbody in my life. Let's just look at it in all its glory (lol).

Lady Gaga the New Face of Versace

yaaaaasssss!!!!! Match made in heaven!

Gym Gear

I have been obsessed with workout clothes ever since going back to the gym. I am guilty of wearing my gym clothes to lounge around the house and to run errands. They're so comfy and practical (a word ive been using a lot since I turned 26). Check out the cute pieces I found on Polyvore below.

@BadGalRiRi

Seriously Rihanna is my spirit animal.

Cityblis

Not to long ago I was made aware of Cityblis. Cityblis connects hundreds of Indy designers and brands with shoppers worldwide. I have been glued to the website and have discovered so many amazing unique pieces from jewelry to interior design.

The shopping experience is pretty simple and straight forward. You can shop by designer/brand or other categories such as season, color (black, black, black for me lol), and price, etc.

They even have an affiliate program for bloggers which is really cool.

Will any of you be checking out Cityblis?

Rainy Day Blues

It has been raining in DC for the last 24 hours and I am beginning to have a bit of cabin fever so I'm venturing out into the clod and dreary weather. I snapped a few pictures before I headed out. Nothing special outfit wise, pretty simple in fact but its so cozy.

My Kimono Skirt

I picked up this amazing Kimono wrap skirt from Zara over the summer and I am totally obsessed with it. I have been trying to force myself to be comfortable wearing skirts again since I packed on a few pounds. *coughalotofpounds* I could not take wearing jeans in the hellish DC summer anymore so I whipped out the skirts. While I am busting my butt in the gym to shed the weight I am trying not to mentally restrict myself from clothing I love because thats just plain dumb. [ sidebar: Im so happy that it is finally Fall! Bring on the cool weather.]

Camisole - H&M

Mel's Picks: Back to School Edition

I'll be heading back to campus on Monday for my final year of school at Howard University. When it comes to my school wardrobe its all about comfort, functionality, and of course STYLE! Check out  my picks below ;)

Back to school

Sweet Shorts ;)

The lovely people over at Sugarlips Apparel reached out to me to be apart of their blogger partnership program and I totally jumped at the chance. I was sent the Different Strokes Shorts and I heart them. They totally scream summer...summer...summer time (oooo sumertime). Uhhh did I just age myself?! Anywho... Sugarlips is located in California but they have an online store stocked with amazing pieces that are affordable. Check out there website HERE.

You can get these shorts here!

I paired the shorts up with a collared button up blouse from H&M. I love this shirt it is so versatile and it was only $12.95. Winning!

Y'all may remember my Steven by Steve Maddens. This shoe is still my everything. :)

I painted a Tiffany Blue accent wall in the addition to my room. As you can see im an excellent painter. Notice how no paint got on the floor. Le sigh...im not looking forward to refinishing the floors. Soooooo much work. Oneday ill give you guys a photo tour of my house and show yall all the things my sister and I have done.

This outfit is perfect for hanging out or a possible day date.
Once again a huge thank you to Sugarlips Apparel.

Trend Report: Sporty

Play sports? (me not so much) Was Sporty Spice your favorite Spice Girl? If you answered yes to any of those questions Fashionistas, then you are going to love this trend. (Even if you answered no...you're still going to love it) From football to scuba diving, this spring designers were heavily influenced by the world of sports.

Get the look by channeling your inner deep sea divers by rocking scuba dresses like this one by Alexander Wang pictured below.

Will you be rocking this trend this season? I think I will be giving it a whirl. This screams comfort without sacrificing style. (aka right up my alley)
