#DadStyle

Father's Day was this past Sunday, and I am grateful for my Dad every single day.  After all he is where I get my love of science and nature from. I never really thought about my dad's style until I was inspired by Bonobos. My Dad's style has gone unnoticed because I am typically raiding my mom's closet for awesomeness and praying she doesn't notice (lol).

I would describe my dad's style as comfortable and functional. My dad is very much a jeans and shirt type of guy but can mix things up when he is going out. That's why the chinos at Bonobos are perfect for him and any man who needs a multi-functional wardrobe. After all, who doesn't need a wardrobe that can do both?! Dad can easily pair the chinos with a pair of sneakers for an insta-casual look or  trade the sneakers for a pair of loafers for a dressier night time look.

Next time I am searching for wardrobe gems I might have to take a peak into my Dad's closet. Cheers to dad style!

Current Obsessions: Self Portrait

I am currently obsessing over London based label Self Portrait. Self Portrait's designs blends beautifully the sharp tailoring of menswear and the flirty femininity of lace. What I love about this label is that it's understated but bold. If you see a woman in their clothing you WILL pay attention. After all, how could you not when the clothes are so awesome.

Mel's Life: #BTS DOKU Summer 15 Shoot

I put on my stylist hat for the second time this weekend and whew what a weekend it was. There were laughs, tears, sweat, and we all learned We Like to Cha Cha.  The theme of this shoot was a cross between music festival wear and every day city chic. Check out the behind the scenes pics courtesy of Lauren (thanks!!!).

Mel's Life: Capsule Collection

Packing for my upcoming move has been such an eye-opener. Seeing the amount of clothing I possess has really overwhelmed me. It is a bit ridiculous actually. So this weekend I intend to whittle down my clothing into a pseudo capsule collection. A capsule collection is mini wardrobe collection that consists of 33-37 staple pieces that can be mixed and matched for an entire season. Caroline from Unfancy has an awesome wardrobe planner to help anyone build a capsule wardrobe. I will be using her planner myself to steer me in the direction of simple chic (lol). I cannot wait to start!

Is anyone else intrigued by capsule collections?

The Slay List: The Met Gala 2015

This years Met Gala theme was China Through the Looking Glass and naturally everyone went see through (yaaaaaawwwwwn). Here are my picks for top 3 looks tonight. I chose these three ladies because their looks were visually interesting and on theme.

SJP always serves at the Met Gala

I love Solo's look because she reminds me of a Chinese Fan

Mel's Life: Styling and Profiling

Remember my first time styling for DOKU?! Here are a couple of the final images from the shoot a couple of months ago. Not bad for my first time eh?

Mel's Life: Another Day, Another DOKU Shoot

If you haven't checked out shopDOKU.com you should be ashamed of yourself because you are missing out on global awesomeness. DOKU brings talented indie designers from across the globe directly to you thus providing you with a wicked closet filled with goodies from all over the world.

This weekend I had the opportunity to watch my vision come to life as creative director/stylist for their SS15 shoot. I was inspired by bright colors, fruit, and summer time fun :) Here are a couple of BTS pics that I took as well as a preview from our awesome photographer.

BTS: Doku Shoot in Brooklyn

Check out the behind the scenes video I made for the DOKU shoot in Brooklyn last month. It was exhausting work but also a lot of fun.

That's Dope: Doku

Last weekend I went to New York to help the Doku team with their photo shoot for the upcoming launch of their website (shopdoku.com). Doku brings you global designers right to your finger tips. The site will be launching in November but in the meantime check out their instagram account!

Current Obsession: Madewell's Transporter Tote

I have been looking for a a good everyday leather bag and I finally found it at Madewell! I recently purchased the Transporter tote in English Saddle with monogramming, (M for Melanie), and I cannot wait for it to arrive. I saved 15% off with my student ID in store and received free monogramming (a $10 savings) through Madewell's current promo. If you're in the market for a new everyday bag definitely check out the Transporter.

Wish List: Zara High Heeled Printed Leather Bootie

I Want. I Need.

Rihanna for Balmain

Rihanna is the face of Balmain's RTW Spring 2014 campaign. Olivier Rousteing Balmain's creative director called the singer an icon of his generation and it shows in this campaign. Rihanna + Balmain = a match in fashion heaven.

Lady Gaga the New Face of Versace

yaaaaasssss!!!!! Match made in heaven!

Gym Gear

I have been obsessed with workout clothes ever since going back to the gym. I am guilty of wearing my gym clothes to lounge around the house and to run errands. They're so comfy and practical (a word ive been using a lot since I turned 26). Check out the cute pieces I found on Polyvore below.

Seriously Rihanna is my spirit animal.

What's that A Boot?

Six hot boots for this Fall/Winter.

Little Black Dress

Not too long ago I bought this dress to attend a charity event here in DC. I searched high and low in ZARA to find this dress and I absolutely looooove it. I love the way it hugs my curves and of course the sexy back. The only issue I have is I bought the dress too big and it adds a bit more chunk to my frame. (oy vey!) I am now in search of a seamstress to take the dress in.

Every girl should own a little black dress.
